For USB modem solutions on current generation Teradek products:
1. If the Teradek Node has frequency support for your area, this would be the one option that can guarantee compatibility with your Teradek device.
2. Refer to the article sections on USB modems and Wi-Fi hotspots with USB tethering support which are confirmed as working.
The below list is provided for historical purposes
The majority of these USB modems are only applicable to our legacy product line:
- 1st or 2nd generation product line Cube models 100 through 555
- Bond (original), Bond II, and Bond Pro
- Vidiu (original)
While some of these modems may work for current generation products such as the 600 or 700 series encoders, or Vidiu Go or Vidiu X, the majority of these USB devices are long discontinued by their respective manufacturers and represent designs far behind the current state of technology.
As such, these modems are not guaranteed to work on current generation devices and support for legacy modems and technologies will not be to current Teradek products.

3. What firmware version do I need on Cube to use additional 3G/4G modems?
- Firmware version 5.0.0 or later; previous versions only support the Verizon Pantech UML-290.
4. My modem doesn't appear to be connecting when plugged into Cube, what can I do?
- Check if there is a SIM lock on the modem that requires a PIN code; you can usually disable this by putting the modem's SIM card into a phone and turning it off. Consult with your mobile carrier for instructions.
- Check if your modem is set to automatically connect; this is usually done through a software client setting on a laptop/desktop computer. Consult with your mobile carrier for instructions.
- Check with your carrier to see if different APN settings are needed based on using a pre-paid vs. post-paid mobile broadband account.
- FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY: certain Huawei modems can appear as multiple devices (CD-ROM, memory card, modem, etc.); to put them in a "modem-only" mode you can try the following:
- Use a terminal emulator app on Windows (e.g. PuTTY, KiTTY or HyperTerminal) or Mac (ZTerm)
- Connect to the modem and send "AT^U2DIAG=0" to the serial port associated with it
- The modem should answer OK; on the next power up nothing except the modem device should be detected
- To restore your modem to show all devices, connect as above and send "AT^U2DIAG=256"; check with this list to see which command should be sent depending on your model
5. Can you add support for my carrier and modem?
- It may be possible; please email support@teradek.com with your mobile broadband provider / carrier and the model numbers of the USB modems you currently own or are considering to see if support could be integrated into Cube for a future firmware release.
- You can also send us the modem for testing by creating a support ticket.
