Airmix Live Air – Teradek – Technical – YouTube new API workaround
PROBLEM
- Why Airmix can not publish to Youtube by selecting an event created on Youtube? Publishing is successful only by using custom RTMP. It freezes in the "Publishing to Youtube Live" window. It worked fine couples of weeks ago.
- Amix solo is not working or not connecting to YouTube, is there a fix for it or is there something that could be done.
SOLUTION
YouTube has made a number of changes over the past year, and has just finalized some additional changes over the past couple of weeks.
Some of those changes have broken compatibility with how streams are requested or broadcast to from outside applications, including Airmix Solo.
The free Airmix Solo app will be updated in the future to adjust to YouTube's changes, but in the interim you can use manual RTMP configuration to stream to YouTube.
Some of those changes are that YouTube no longer has a default "Stream now" option, and YouTube will no longer automatically create stream keys, or have single-use stream keys for a broadcast.
1) Please see YouTube's information on how to create a stream with either the Stream Right Now option found under the Stream tab in the Live Control Room interface (this option is most similar to the "Stream now" option under their discontinued interface) or the Schedule a Stream option found under the Manage tab in the Live Control Room interface (this option is most similar to the Events" option under their discontinued interface).

They also have a video that goes over how to use the new Live Control Room interface, it's embedded on the above page and is also found at the below link:

2) When creating a stream key:
- consult YouTube's encoder setting guidelines so that the resolution and frame rate you choose will match their expected video bitrate ranges: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853702?hl=en&ref_topic=9257892
- if you will always broadcast at the same resolution you can specify a fixed resolution for the stream key, otherwise you can choose the variable resolution / frame rate option
3) Airmix Solo Configuration
Part 1: configure Airmix Solo with the YouTube settings:
1) tap the blue button with three gears at top left for Settings
2) under Output, choose Broadcasting Destinations, Manage Destinations, Add Destination, select RTMP(S)
3) enter the primary server URL from YouTube under the URL section
4) enter the stream key from YouTube under the Stream section
5) (optional) enable the Auto-Reconnect option at the bottom
6) no other items (username, password, etc.) need to be added or changed
7) tap Done twice to save
Part 2: adjust encoding settings to match the stream key settings and YouTube's requirements
1) tap the blue button with three gears at top left for Settings
2) under Output, choose Encoder Settings and either use one of the built-in presets, or select Manual and adjust settings to match the stream key settings
