In Bolt Manager 3.4.23, the first version of Bolt Manager with Bolt 4K support, it was possible in some cases for the device detection process to misread which device was connected.
Because of this, it was possible for Bolt Manager to use TX firmware to update a connected RX, if one device was connected after the other. Unfortunately, if the RX has TX video processor firmware loaded onto it, the unit will fail to boot properly, and the display will show 'OVERHEATING ?C' as the device attempts to read the temperature from the incorrect hardware.
Bolt Manager 3.4.24 addresses the mis-detection issue, and adds a way to recover units that have had the wrong firmware loaded. You can download the new software here https://www.teradek.com/pages/downloads#bolt4k
If your RX or TX is failing to boot, with the message 'OVERHEATING ?C', you can recover it using Bolt Manager 3.4.24, just follow these steps:
- Close and reopen Bolt Manager
- Load firmware from web
- Connect affected device
- Go to Advanced view, check the box next to Video Processor, click Start Upgrade! Process will stop at approximately 10%
- Power cycle device and wait for Bolt Manager to detect it
- Click Start Upgrade! upgrade should complete successfully
