Overview
The Teradek Ace 500 and SmallHD FOCUS Bolt monitor are available in a Director's Monitor Bundle and an On-Camera Monitor Bundle.
Although the Ace and SmallHD FOCUS are not initially paired when shipped from the factory, these steps allow you to quickly pair the transmitter and receiver in each bundle.
Getting Started
- Make sure your Ace firmware is up to date by visiting: teradek.com/pages/downloads.
- Make sure your FOCUS firmware is up to date by visiting: smallhd.com/pages/software.

On-Camera Monitor Bundle
Pairing Instructions for the Ace 500 RX and FOCUS Bolt 500 TX
- Using the FOCUS Bolt TX, swipe right until the Settings menu appears, then select the Wireless option.
- Activate pairing mode on the FOCUS Bolt TX.
- Connect a monitor to the HDMI output of the Ace 500 RX, then activate pairing mode using the Menu button on the Ace 500 RX.
- Once the FOCUS Bolt TX is located, confirm pairing on the Ace 500 RX using the Menu button.
- After the pairing process is complete, green check marks will appear on the screen of the FOCUS Bolt TX, and the monitor connected to the Ace 500 RX will indicate that pairing was successful.
- Exit the menu to operate the FOCUS Bolt TX monitor, and use the Menu button on the Ace 500 RX to exit the on screen display.
Unpairing the receivers connected to the FOCUS Bolt 500 TX
- To unpair all receivers connected to the FOCUS Bolt TX, select Wireless in the Settings menu.
- Select Unpair Receivers, then select Unpair All?
- The FOCUS Bolt TX is now ready to pair with new receivers.
Director’s Monitor Bundle
Pairing Instructions for the Ace 500 TX and FOCUS Bolt 500 RX or FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX
- Using the FOCUS Bolt RX, swipe right until the Settings menu appears, then select the Wireless option.
- Activate pairing mode on the FOCUS Bolt RX.
- Activate pairing mode on your Ace 500 TX by using a paper clip to press the recessed reset/pairing button for just 1 second, then release. The wireless link status LED on the Ace 500 TX may begin to flash rapidly.
- Once the Ace TX is located by the FOCUS Bolt RX, select PAIR? on the FOCUS Bolt RX monitor.
- After the pairing process is complete, green check marks will appear on the screen of the FOCUS Bolt RX.
- Exit the menu to operate the FOCUS Bolt RX monitor.
Unpairing the transmitter connected to the FOCUS Bolt 500 RX or FOCUS 7 Bolt 500 RX
- To unpair the transmitter connected to the FOCUS Bolt RX, select Wireless in the Settings menu.
- Select Paired TX, then unpair the FOCUS Bolt RX with the currently-paired transmitter.
- The FOCUS Bolt RX is now ready to pair with a new transmitter.
Best Practices
- Keep the transmitter and receiver at close range for the first 60 seconds to allow scanning for the best wireless channel.
- When using multiple Bolt / Ace systems, place the transmitter and receiver in each system at least 6 feet apart from each other, and apart from other transmitter / receiver pairs.
