There are two possible methods of accessing a Beam on the local network -- through a wired Ethernet connection, or through the Beam TX's Wi-Fi connection.
Ethernet
The Beam TX and Beam RX each have a static IP address as the factory default for the Ethernet port.
The default IP addresses are listed in the Beam product documentation in this article, and are provided below:
- Beam TX : 192.168.0.161
- Beam RX : 192.168.0.162
You must assign an IP address in the same network range to your device to allow access to the Beam over Ethernet.
NOTE: a crossover cable is not required for direct computer connection, Teradek products use Auto MDI-X to configure the connection to the computer.
However, if the computer has multiple network interfaces (e.g. two Ethernet ports, or one Ethernet port and one Wi-Fi adapter) you may need to disable all network interfaces except for the Ethernet port being used to connect to the Beam. Otherwise, your computer may try to access the Beam using the wrong network interface.
It's not possible to use a DHCP setting for the IP address on the Beam's Ethernet connection -- only static IP address settings are supported.
Wi-Fi
The Beam TX and Beam RX each have a static IP address as the factory default for the Wi-Fi connection.
The default IP addresses are listed in the Beam product documentation in this article, and are provided below:
- Beam TX : 192.168.2.1
- Beam RX : 192.168.2.2
Connect to the Beam TX's Wi-Fi and it will assign an IP address to your computer, tablet or phone using DHCP.
Once you have connected to the Wi-Fi network, you can connect to either the Beam TX or RX.
NOTE: the Beam does not bridge between the Ethernet and Wi-Fi interfaces, so devices connected to the Beam's Wi-Fi network will not receive network access through the Beam's Ethernet port. When connected to the Beam's Wi-Fi network, it is an isolated Wi-Fi network that just allows access between the Beam TX and RX units, or client devices on the same Wi-Fi network generated by the Beam TX.
