Lowering Latency on the Beam

In situations where low latency is required for IMAG type shooting (Camera to projector or TV for live events) here are a couple of suggestions for lowering latency:

  • Turning on low delay mode

  • Disabling the audio

  • Keep the bitrate ~10mbps or less

  • Set the coding mode to random intra refresh

When you get down to ~1/4 second (6 or 7 frames) it’s important to consider that there is additional delay added by the camera’s output and the monitor. Beam adds a minimum of 1.5 frames of delay however, it doesn’t promise 1.5 frames delay from glass to glass.  If you need a zero latency solution, Teradek also offers the Bolt series.
